THE WELBECK ESTATE
DropWorks is located on the Welbeck Estate, a historic country estate on the edge of Sherwood Forest in Nottinghamshire. The estate is home to multiple independent businesses including an art gallery, award-winning farm shop, café, bakery, brewery, and school of artisan food. A distillery visit pairs well with a full day on the estate.

Accessibility and inclusivity at DropWorks Rum Distillery
We want every visit to feel welcoming, safe and easy to plan. Here is some practical information for guests, carers, disabled visitors, families, designated drivers and anyone who may need a little extra support before arriving.
Visit summary
DropWorks Rum Distillery is located on the stunning Welbeck estate in Worksop, Nottinghamshire. Postcode: S80 3LX. The Stone shed, where the distillery is located is near Welbeck Abbey Brewery and the School of Artisan Food.
Tour arrival: please arrive at least 10 minutes prior to your start time.
Before you book
- Share any mobility, sensory, communication or dietary requirements in advance so the team can prepare.
- Ask about suitable tour dates, quieter times or group support if that would improve your experience.
- Contact the team before travelling if you need help with route planning, taxi drop-off or arrival guidance on the estate.
When you arrive
- Please give yourself plenty of time to travel to us, and ideally arrive 10 minutes before your scheduled tour so the team can welcome you and answer questions without rushing.
- The distillery is on a rural estate, so planning your route in advance can make arrival easier.
- If you need extra time or step-free guidance from parking or drop-off, email ahead and request support on arrival.
During your visit
- Safety information is shared at the start of each tour, including fire exits, toilets, marked walkways and key site rules.
- Children aged eight and over are welcome on tours free of charge and are offered a non-alcoholic substitute.
- Designated drivers can take away a sample to enjoy later rather than tasting on site.
Travel and arrival information
- The distillery is based at Welbeck Estate in Nottinghamshire, and DropWorks recommends following signs for the distillery once on site.
- Phone signal can be limited around the estate, so it helps to download directions in advance and keep booking details accessible offline.
- Train access is possible via Worksop, Retford, Chesterfield and Whitwell, with taxi transfers recommended for the final part of the journey.
What to expect on site
DropWorks is a working distillery, so some areas involve production equipment, guided walkways and standard safety restrictions. Closed-toe, flat shoes are required, and high heels or open-toed footwear are not permitted on the tour.
Helpful planning note
Because the site sits within a private rural estate, guests who need a calmer or more supported arrival experience should contact the team at your earliest convenience, in advance of the visit. This makes it easier to discuss parking, taxi access, timing and any extra assistance needed on arrival.

Disabled guests
Wheelchair users and guests with limited mobility are welcome at the distillery. Our main entrance, tasting areas and disabled toilet are step‑free, and our team can provide seating at points along the tour if standing for long periods is difficult, please do let us know of any access needs when you book and we’ll do our best to shape the visit around you.
Designated drivers and non-drinkers
Guests who are driving can take home a sample instead of drinking on site. Children on tours are served a non-alcoholic substitute, and the same hospitable approach can be extended to any guest who prefers not to drink alcohol.
Families and mixed-age groups
Children aged eight and over can attend with an accompanying adult, which makes the distillery suitable for some family visits and mixed-age groups. Babes in arms are also welcome as long as they are supervised by an adult at all times. Please do get in touch to discuss any arrangements that would make you feel most comfortable.
There is some walking and standing throughout the tour, so please let us know in advance if you would like the offer of a chair or have any specific mobility issues that we may be able to support you with.
Guests with visual impairment
If you are blind or partially sighted, please note that our tours naturally focus on sound, smell and taste as well as what you can see. Wherever possible, a team member can give extra verbal description of equipment and spaces as you move around the distillery to help you appreciate the experience to its fullest.
Guests who are hard of hearing or deaf
If you are hard of hearing or deaf, we can provide written information to support the tour commentary and our hosts are happy to face you clearly when speaking and repeat key points.
If you’d benefit from a quieter group, slower pace or front‑of‑group position to make lip‑reading easier, just tell us when you book or on arrival and we’ll do our best to arrange that.
Guests sensitive to light, noise or busy spaces
The distillery is a working environment, so there may be periods of background noise from equipment and music in the bar. If you are autistic, have sensory processing needs, or simply prefer a calmer visit, we can often reduce sound levels and suggest quieter tour times.
You are welcome to bring ear defenders or earplugs if that makes the experience more comfortable for you.
Assistance dogs and service dogs
Assistance dogs are welcome. If you are bringing a guide or assistance dog on a tour, please let us know in advance so we can plan the safest route for you both.
