Distiller's Drop 002 Awarded Gold in The Spirits Business Rum and Cacacha Awards

Distiller’s Drop #002 – our Bordeaux Red Wine Cask release – is officially here, and we’re quietly (well, not that quietly) convinced it might be our most exciting Drop yet.

Hand selected by our Founder and Master Distiller, Lewis Hayes, this limited release is everything we love about real rum: bold, characterful, and unapologetically full of flavour. And as always with our Distiller’s Drops, once it’s gone… it’s gone.

A Proper Reception

Before launching, we wanted to see how it stood up in the real world, so we poured it for the people who know their rum best.

Over the past couple of weeks, we hosted five intimate tasting events with industry friends and our wider community. The response was genuinely incredible! The kind that makes all the waiting feel very worth it.

And if that wasn’t enough, we also made an appearance on Sunday Brunch featured by the legendary rum ambassador Ian Burrell. Check out Ian’s Newark Sour recipe at the bottom of this post!

Award-Winning from Day 1

Before we even revealed what was inside the bottle, Distiller’s Drop #002 was entered blind into the The Spirits Business Rum & Cachaça Masters, going head-to-head with rums from across the globe.

We are over the moon that Distiller’s Drop #002 was awarded Gold, before we had even launched!

So, What’s It Like?

If you’re into big, bold, characterful rum, then you’re in the right place.

This is a Drop that doesn’t hold back. Rich, layered, and packed with personality from its time in Bordeaux red wine casks, it’s one to sip, savour, and probably talk about a bit too much.

Expect notes of wild strawberries, cracked black pepper and crème brûlée.

When it’s gone… it’s gone!

This is a limited release, and we mean it. When these bottles are gone, they won’t be coming back.

The ‘Newark Sour’ by Ian Burrell

‘A twist on the New Your Sour. Inspired by my Aunty Paula and her late husband Ian Thorne who lived in Newark, and was the High Sheriff of Nottingham in the mid 1980’s’

50ml DropWorks ‘Distillers Drop’

25ml Fresh Lemon Juice

20ml Simple Syrup (1:1 sugar/water)

1 Egg White (optional, for foam)

15ml Dry Bordeaux Red Wine (float)

Garnish: Lemon zest, & or cocktail cherry

Shake all the ingredients,except the red wine, with plenty of ice until cold. Double strain into a rock glass with a large block of ice. Float the red wine on top of the drink. Garnish with a lemon twist and a dark cherry.
